Frequently Asked Questions
What is an intensive outpatient program?
Our intensive outpatient program is an evening program that meets
3 to 4 times per week for 2.5 hours per meeting. Our program is
designed to meet the needs of individuals who would prefer an evening
program of treatment. We provide continuity of care to individuals
who have been discharged from an in-patient setting or day treatment
program. We also provide treatment to those individuals who find
that they need more than individual therapy sessions with their
therapist and/or dietitian.
What clientele do you serve?
We provide treatment to individuals with dysfunctional eating patterns
such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge Eating Disorders
(a.k.a. compulsive overeating), and post gastric bypass surgery.
In addition, we provide treatment to individuals who are also having
problems with depression, anxiety and substance abuse.
What are the ages of the clients?
Discovery Paths is open to individuals of all ages. We treat both
minors as well as adults.
Do you treat men and women?
Yes, Discovery Paths treats both men and women, as we know that
Eating Disorders are not just limited to women.
Will you be able to treat me if I also have
depression, anxiety or a substance abuse issue?
At Discovery Paths, our therapists are trained to work with individuals
with more than just their Eating Disorder. We will work on a treatment
plan to address the Eating Disorder as well other problems that
an individual may present.
How long is your program?
Discovery Paths offers a ten-week program. Our staff has developed
a comprehensive program to meet the needs of the current clientele.
If I need more treatment, what are my options?
Although our program is for ten weeks, individuals who need more
treatment can attend an additional ten-week session.
Do you provide individual therapy?
Discovery Path provides treatment via a group therapeutic milieu.
This enables clients to gain insight and direction from the therapist
as well as from peers who may be experiencing similar feelings and
issues. We encourage clients to have their own individual therapist.
They are welcomed to work with one of our therapist or we can provide
referrals to experienced therapists in the community.
How are my family or friends involved in my
treatment?
We believe that involvement of family and/or significant others
are important to the client’s recovery. Family and/or significant
others attend the Multi-Family group to address issues involving
relationships such as co-dependency, boundaries, communication,
shame, anger management and self- esteem.
What is the cost of your program?
The Initial Assessment and Evaluation is $250.00. The cost for
the ten-week session is $8250.00.
How do I pay for treatment?
We ask that you pay for ten- week session in advance. You may pay
by credit card or by check or money order.
Will insurance pay for my treatment at Discovery
Paths?
We are currently in the process of becoming network providers.
This process will take several weeks; therefore during this period
of time, we can provide you with a super bill that you can submit
to your insurance for reimbursement. It is the client’s responsibility
to check with their insurance for an explanation of their mental
health benefits and to submit their super bill. Most insurance companies
will cover the cost of an intensive outpatient program.
What is the process for entering into treatment
at Discovery Paths?
At Discovery Paths, one of our therapists will make an appointment
with you to assess and evaluate you in order to determine if this
level of treatment is appropriate for you.
Do I need to be under the care of a physician
while I am in treatment at Discovery Paths?
As an outpatient program, we require that you are under the care
of your physician and that you will be meeting with him on a regular
basis. If you do not have a physician and would like for us to provide
you with referrals to physicians in the area, we would be happy
to do so. We require a recent physical, blood work-up, EKG and bone
density scan prior to admission to the program.
